We're Officially a Public Charity — And Here's Why That Matters
We have exciting news to share: Flourish has officially been reclassified by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public charity. This is a milestone we are incredibly proud of, and one that belongs to every person who has supported our mission.
What Does This Mean?
For years, Flourish operated as a private nonprofit — a classification that served us well in our early days. But as our community of supporters grew, so did our eligibility for a broader designation: public charity status.
Public charity status is granted to organizations that demonstrate widespread community support. In other words, this reclassification is a direct reflection of you — the donors, volunteers, partners, and advocates who have rallied around our mission.
What This Means for Our Donors
This reclassification brings meaningful practical benefits, especially for those who want to support our work:
Donations through donor-advised funds (DAFs) are now eligible — making it easier for many donors to give.
Corporate matching programs that previously excluded private foundations may now apply to gifts made to Flourish.
We can now pursue a broader range of foundation and government grants that were unavailable to us as a private nonprofit.
Your contributions continue to be fully tax-deductible as always.
How We Got Here
This didn't happen overnight. It took two years of growing our donor base, deepening community relationships, and demonstrating consistent public support for neurodivergent kids, teens and their families. Every gift — no matter the size — contributed to this milestone.
